Lexmark Smart Card Authentication: Badge Reader Does Not Work When Proximity Sensor Awakens Printer or MFP

Affected Products:
Solution: Smart Card Authentication
Issue Description:
The card reader is unresponsive after the device awakens via proximity sensor activation. The issue may appear with the following factors:
  • Authentication screen is displayed but it is unresponsive to a card-swipe.
  • The reader appears to disconnect and reconnect.
  • Elatec TWN4 legic cardreader.
  • Card implementation being used, in this case, is for Advanced Prompting (authentication=Badge/ with dblookup/ with ldaplookup).
Disabling the proximity sensor eliminates the problem but this will not fix the issue. This issue is related to an internal port race between internal port timings and security rules.
Solution:
Update firmware to correct this behavior. Known firmware versions known to correct this issue include PE fix
PP.033.128X
, or FW4 (
041.217
), or above.
