Bar code templates cannot be retrieved in Solution Composer (Designer)

Issue description

The issue has several manifestations:
  • After creating a bar code on the printer using the Bar Code Discovery app, and then trying to retrieve this bar code in Solution Composer, nothing happens, and no error message is displayed, as shown below.
  • When using the “Deploy Solution to Printer” option in Solution Composer, an error message is displayed: “
    Error deploying [printer ip]. Target printer not found.
    ”, as shown below.

Solution

This issue can occur due to lacking authorization (401), resulting in the failure to retrieve bar code templates from Bar Code Discovery. Solution Composer (Designer) requires authorization to access Bar Code Discovery to enable the retrieval of bar code templates.
To solve this issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Access the printer
    Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    by typing the printer IP address into the URL field of your browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari). Enter http://MFP_IP_Address, where MFP_IP_Address is the IP address of the printer.
    An IP address appears as four sets of numbers separated by periods, such as 123.123.123.123. This can be obtained from the printer home screen, the TCP/IP section in the Network/Ports menu, or by printing a network setup page or menu settings page, and then finding the TCP/IP section.
  2. Once in the EWS page, click

    Security
    >
    Login Methods
    >
    Public
    >
    Manage Permissions
    >
    Device Management
    , and then check the
    “Import/Export All Settings”
    box.
  3. Click
    Save
    .
