Some of the high end mono pick tires
(40X4308)
are contaminated with mold release oil. New tires right out of the package will not feed paper.
Solution
Clean the pick tires with alcohol and scrub them with a paper towel to remove the oil. Do not use the old ground pick tires
(40X0070)
in the T64x and T65x printers. They are more likely to cause multifeeds/paper jams and they only last about 100K pages. The
40X4308
tires are designed to last the entire life of the printer.

Overview:
PN - 40X4308
However, there are some cases that these tires are contaminated with mold release oil. New tires right out of the package may not feed paper and may cause
241 Paper Jams
. The image on the next page shows the difference between the old and new pick tires.
Old Ground Pick Tires PN-40X0070 (smooth surface)
Bidirectional Ground Pick Tires PN-40X4308 (serrated surface)
Diagnosis
Step
Action
1
Check first the media that the customer is using and verify if it matches the
Paper Type
settings on the printer.
2
  • Run the
    Input Tray Test
to verify if the printer is having difficulties pulling the paper from the input tray. If paper jam happened on the process, check the Paper Pick tires and verify if the surface is smooth or serrated. Check the image above to see the difference.
  • If the tires are smooth, then the machine still has the old ground pick tires. If this is the case, replace it with the Bidirectional pick tires.
    (PN: 40X4308)
  • If the tires are serrated, then the machine has Bidirectional Pick tires. Clean the pick tires with isopropyl alcohol and scrub them thoroughly using a paper towel to remove the possible contamination of mold release oil.
