Complex Page error message

Issue description

The printer will stop printing and a 39 or Complex Page error will appear on the printer screen.

Explanation

The amount of memory space needed to process the print job is greater than the memory capacity of the printer. When this occurs, the printer will not be able to continue printing the current page and it will display a Complex Page error.

• Pressing the select button will clear the message and allow the printer to continue printing. However, some information on the page may not print or may print incorrectly.
• Pressing the menu button will give you the option to cancel the print job.

Solution

There are a number of steps you can take to avoid receiving this message in the future.

• Reduce the complexity and size of the print job before sending it to print again. There are many ways to do this - for example:
• Reduce the number of pages in the print job.
• Reduce the number and size of any downloaded fonts.
• Delete any unnecessary fonts or macros from the print job.
• Reduce the number of graphics in the print job.
• If printing at 1200 dpi, 1200 Image Quality, or 2400 Image Quality resolution, reduce the Print Resolution setting to 600 dpi.

Note:  The default setting on the Lexmark W840 is 2400 Image Quality.

• You can also install additional memory into the printer. To order additional memory online, go to the Supplies page at www.Lexmark.com.
• If you have a hard drive option installed on the printer, you can partition part of the hard drive to act as an additional memory buffer for print jobs. To do this, you will need to change the Job Buffering setting for each port (parallel, network, and USB) to Auto or On. If this is done, the printer will use the hard drive to store confidential print jobs and act as an additional memory buffer for more complex print jobs.

Note:  Formatting the hard drive option on the printer may cause the Job Buffering setting to return to the default setting Off.
