Updating printer or MFP firmware using a USB thumb or flash drive

Issue description
This article explains how to perform a
USB flash/thumb drive
firmware update. Please use the section that corresponds to your generation of device.
Solution
Requirements:
Firmware
Update File
(*
.fls
file).
The printer must be in a Ready state to update the firmware.
This update option only applies to printer models with a front USB port.
2010 ‑ 2020 Lexmark MFP / SFP Series:
Insert USB Flash drive (FAT32 format).
Newer versions of firmware on certain models may support NTFS format of the flash drive.
Go to the Home Screen of the control panel.
Go to the
USB Drive
.
On some smaller screen devices, after going to “USB Drive” the user can see a “Scan from USB” and “Print from USB” option. Select “Print from USB” before proceeding to
Step 4
below.
Find and select the
firmware update file
(*.fls file).
Select
Update Code
.
Do not turn off the printer while the update is going on.
Upon successful completion of the firmware update, the device reboots automatically.
2008 Lexmark SFP Series:
4‑Line APA Panel Instructions
Insert the USB flash drive (FAT32 format).
Device displays the USB Menu with a listing of the flash drive’s file contents.
Press the
Down Button
until the appropriate
.fls
file is selected.
Press the
Check Button
to select this file.
Update
and
Do Not Update
appears on the LCD. If you must abort the update, press the
Down Button
and select
Do Not Update
.
To update the firmware select
Update
.
Upon successful completion of the firmware update, the device reboots automatically.
