Google accounts and less secure apps update
Announcement from Google regarding accounts and less secure apps
Issue description
As per the following announcement found in this document:
- “In an effort to improve security of Google Account's, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which sign into the Google Account using only username and password.”
This, at a minimum, is expected to impact the ability to send email from the printer via Gmail. Firmware development is investigating potential changes to address this change in behavior on the part of Google.
Solution
In the interim, Google has provided a recommendation of a workaround that will enable Lexmark customers to continue using Gmail in this manner while these firmware changes are under development.
This workaround would require a user to enable an App Password to associate with their Lexmark printer. Google will provide a password which the user can then use as the SMTP password in the printer.
