Printing defaults are not getting transferred into Windows 10 clients

Printing Defaults Are Not Getting Transferred into Windows 10 Clients

Issue description

  • This issue will be reproducible with Server 2012, Server 2012 R2 and Server 2008 R2 with Win 10 clients which has the 1607 (Win 10 RS1) update.
  • Server 2016 will not have this issue since its released was aligned with RS1.
Upon opening
Printing preferences
on a
Windows 10 client
, you notice
default driver settings
are
applied
rather than the original custom driver settings configured on the print server.
This issue does not occur with Windows 10 (with
update
version
1511
) with
Lexmark Universal Print Driver
(
UPD
). This is
NOT
a
Lexmark driver specific issue
and it can happen with
any
printer vendor.

Solution

This issue is related to Microsoft's core driver files and leads to a
mismatch
of driver file versions on the print server. The net effect is Printing Preferences from the print server do not synchronize in Windows 10 version 1607 and driver settings found under
Printing preferences
; e.g., Print on both sides (duplex), Print in Black-And-White, Paper size etc., do not get transferred to the client from the print server.
A workaround has been provided by Microsoft. Please refer to the Microsoft KB article 3201130 for more information.
