Unable to print Word documents from a USB drive

Customers encounter issues when attempting to print Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx) directly from a USB drive on legacy Lexmark printers.

Issue description

When attempting to print a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx) directly from a USB drive, the printer displays an error message such as "Invalid file format".
The issue occurs because only PDF files are supported for direct USB printing on certain printer models.

Solution

The ability to print Word documents directly from a USB drive is only supported on:
  • Printer models released in 2016 or newer
  • Printer models with 1GB or more of base memory
    • Print the Device Information Page from the printer control panel and look for the Installed Memory section.

If your printer does not meet the memory or model requirements:
  1. Convert the Word document to PDF using Microsoft Word or any online converter.
  2. Save the PDF file to your USB drive.
  3. Print the PDF file from the USB port.
  4. Should the issue persist, contact customer support.
