Double-Sheet and Multi-Sheet Feed from a 550-Sheet Tray on the Lexmark C792 or X792 Series Color Laser Printer

What you will see
The printer/MFP is pulling two or more sheets of paper at the same time. This normally results in the paper jamming or a blank sheet of paper feeding through the printer.
Troubleshooting
Steps
Action
1
Remove all paper from the paper tray. Fan each of the four sides of the paper stack, making sure to separate any pages that are stuck together.
2
Ensure that the desired paper size matches that of the paper in the tray. The side and rear paper guides on the tray should be resting lightly against the edges of the paper and not putting pressure on the paper. To check if the tray is set to the correct paper size, to see image.
3
Try printing a test page. If the page prints, the printer is functioning correctly. If the issue persists, try the following suggestions below.
4
Using the printer operator panel, verify whether the size and type of the paper loaded in the paper tray matches the
Paper Size
and
Type
settings in the
Paper Menu
(e.g., Letter size).
Note:
The
User's Guide
provides detailed instructions for navigating through the printer menus and changing the paper settings.
5
Are you printing on regular plain bond copy paper? If not, try printing again with plain copy paper. This test eliminates specialty media as a potential cause of the issue. In addition to plain paper, various sizes and types of paper and specialty media can be used in Tray 1. For more information on recommended paper types, please refer to the
User's Guide
.
6
If you are already printing on plain copy paper or if the same issue occurs with plain copy paper, replace the paper in the printer with new paper from an unopened ream.
Note:
Keep the paper sealed in its original packaging and remove it only when you are ready to use it. This will help prevent it from collecting moisture, which can increase the likelihood of this issue occurring. Also, make sure not to store paper or operate the printer where it can be exposed to higher than normal levels of humidity.

If the issue persists after you have tried all of these suggestions, please contact
Lexmark Technical Support
or a local authorized service provider for additional troubleshooting steps.
