Issue description

The printer produces text or graphics that are faint or light.

Recommended troubleshooting
  1. When printing from a computer, check
    program and printing properties
    . Gray text and graphics may appear darker on a monitor than on the printer.
  2. Check
    Toner Darkness
    settings on the printer. Darkness setting 8 is the default setting. Darkness setting 10 is the maximum. Lower settings may result in Faint Print.
  3. Extreme humid or dry environments may prevent toner from adhering to paper. Try printing in a controlled environment on fresh, dry media.
  4. Check the
    cartridge
    toner level. Replace the cartridge if the toner is low.
  5. Try printing with a different
    cartridge
    . Replace the cartridge if necessary.
  6. Check the
    transfer roll
    assembly for contamination or wear. Wipe toner and paper dust from the area under the transfer roll. Replace the transfer roll if needed.
  7. Check the metal cartridge electrical
    contacts
    . Click here to see contact locations. If any contacts are bent, dirty, or contaminated, please contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for this printer.
  8. The
    Laser Scan Unit
    (
    LSU
    ) may become contaminated and thus block the laser path. Gently clean the laser glass window above the cartridge.
  9. If faint or light print is accompanied by background (light print where the page should be white) for additional troubleshooting ideas.
