Excessive Calibration, or Constant 'Busy Printing' Message on the Printer Display

Affected products
Click Properties in the title section above.
Overview
The printer hangs on busy, calibrating, waiting, printing and does
not
come to the
Ready
screen. The control panel may be blank or display
Busy
, '
Performing Self Test
', a
stopwatch symbol
, or a line of dots. But the printer never progresses beyond that point.
Troubleshooting
Steps
Actions
1
Power off the printer and disconnect all communication cables (i.e., the
parallel
,
Ethernet
,
USB cables
and
wireless option
) going into the printer. Leave the power cord as the
ONLY
cord or cable going into the printer.
2
Confirm that the correct toner cartridge for this printer model was installed.
Note:
If it appears that the correct toner cartridge was installed, it may
not
be seated correctly. Remove and re-install the cartridge, and ensure it is seated properly.
3
Power on the printer. If it comes to the '
Ready
' state after powering back on, use the operator panel on the printer to print one of the internal pages, such as a settings page or a demo page.
Note:
If the issue occurs again at any time with only the power cord connected, proceed with the steps below.
4
Download the latest firmware code.
  1. Click the
    Support & Downloads
    link on the left-hand pane.
  2. Type your printer model inside the “
Search by Product or Software Name
    ” box, and then hit
    Select
    . Example:
    Lexmark CS310
    or
    CX310
  3. Click the “
    Downloads
” tab and check the latest firmware version.
  4. Click the “
    Download
” button and save the file. Make a note as to where you have the files saved.
Note:
The downloaded ZIP file should contain a text document (Update Instructions) and a “.fls” file (actual code).
5
Power off the printer again. Reconnect the communication cable(s) back into the printer, one at a time (if you had more than one installed). Power on the printer after you install each cable and print a sample page.
Note:
If the issue returns after you reinstall one particular cable, that cable will probably need to be replaced.
