'Tray 1 Empty, Load Tray 1 with Paper' error

Here are steps to troubleshoot when a 'Tray 1 Empty, Load Tray 1 with Paper' error continually appears on a Lexmark CS310, CS410, CS510, CX310, CX410, or CX510.

Issue description

When loading paper in an emptied Tray 1, and you press the “Continue
” button on the printer, it still shows “Tray 1 Empty, Load Tray 1 with paper
” on the control panel.

Media from the primary tray is not being recognized, and it is possible the Tray Present sensor needs replacement to fix the issue.

Solution

In the event that the “Tray 1 Empty, Load Tray 1 with paper
” message still appears on the printer’s control panel even after loading paper in Tray 1, perform the following troubleshooting steps.

Power off the printer to clear the error and power it back on. Should issue still persist, perform Step 2
.

Remove Tray 1 and check whether the printer displays the "Tray 1 Missing
" message.

When no “Tray 1 Missing
” message appears on the operator panel after removing Tray 1, then the Tray Present sensor needs replacement to fix the issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support
