Fax setting to 'not' print transmission log ignored when sending faxes from the computer

Here are steps on how to troubleshoot when the fax setting to 'not' print transmission log is ignored when sending faxes from the computer on a Lexmark CX310, CX410, CX510, MX310, MX410, MX51x, MX61x, MX71x, or MX81x.

Issue description

A fax transmission log prints when sending a fax from the computer even though you have
disabled
the printer's "
Print Transmission Log
" setting. Sending a fax from printer itself does
not
print the fax transmission logs.

Solution

Users are recommended to update the firmware to the
latest PE Release
. See section below.
Firmware Update Steps
  1. Check the device base code firmware level
    Obtain the MFP's
    current
device firmware level. You can use the following options on ways to determine printer firmware code levels.
    Option 1
    Print the
    Menu Settings Page
. Do this from the printer's control panel:
    1. Press the
      Menu
      button on the
      Control Panel
      .
    2. Select
      Reports
      .
    3. Print the
      Menu Settings Page
      .
      The printer reads ‘
      Printing Menu Settings Page
’ and the menu settings pages print out.
    4. Check the code level under
      Device Information
section on the menu settings pages.
    Option 2
    Access the printer's
    Embedded Web Server
    (
    EWS
). Before you begin, a functional network installation (
    wired
    or
    wireless
    not
a local USB installation) is required for access to the web server of any Lexmark network printer.
    1. Determine the
      IP address
of the print server within the printer/MFP.
    2. Launch your preferred web browser application (for example, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer).
    3. In the address field after the http://, enter the printer's
      IP address
      (for example, http://192.168.1.5 or http://169.254.1.42).
    4. Click
      Reports
      .
    5. To check for the code level, click
      Device Information
      .
  2. Identify the fix firmware for your MFP
Please contact your next level of support or
    Lexmark Technical Support
    to obtain the
    .P164
software code for the following models:
    • CX310
    • CX410
    • CX510
    • MX310
    • MX410
    • MX51x Series MFPs
    • MX61x Series MFPs
    • MX71x Series MFPs
    • MX81x Series MFPs
This firmware was specifically created to address
    only
the issues specified in this article. If your printer is not listed and is not experiencing the error,
    DO NOT
    update the firmware.
  3. DLEs and special firmware
Certain functions or applications can require special firmware.
Make this information known to the call center agent and
    do not
attempt to update the MFP firmware if the format of firmware number differs greatly from what is seen in the table just viewed.
Any MFP with any one of these following
    downloadable language emulators
    (
    DLE
) can require special firmware versions:
    • Bar Code
    • IPDS
    • PrintCryption
    • Forms
    • PRESCRIBE
    • ImageQuick
  4. Need help with updating the firmware?
After you have contacted Lexmark for this firmware, extract the
    .fls
file to a known easy-to-find directory, and check this link for different ways on update procedures.
    • Follow any of the update procedures.
    • The printer's web page has an
      Update Firmware
feature that is easy to use.
