31.4x error code reinstall missing or unresponsive toner cartridge error message

Issue description

  • The printer display shows a 31.4x error code due to a missing or unresponsive cartridge.
  • The error codes can be any of the following:
    • 31.40
    • 31.41
    • 31.42
    • 31.43
    • 31.44
    • 31.45
    • 31.46

Solution

  • Check if the toner cartridge installed is a genuine Lexmark cartridge.
    1. Go to the Check to Protect Tool to verify the serial number of the toner cartridge.
    2. If the toner cartridge is non-genuine, then replace it with a genuine one.
  • Remove and reinstall the imaging kit and toner cartridge.
  • Make sure that the date and time on the printer is set correctly.
    • From the control panel or Embedded Web Server, navigate to
      Settings
      Security
      Set Date and Time
      .
  • Check the firmware version of the printer. If the firmware is not the latest version, then update to the latest one.
