31.60C, or 31.40E error appearing on the Lexmark B/MB2236 printer

Issue description

A "Re-install missing or unresponsive imaging unit [31.60C]
" or "Unresponsive cartridge [31.40E]
" error message appears on the printer display.

Solution

Follow these steps to fix the issue.

Perform a power-on-reset
(POR
) by powering the printer off and powering it back on.

Open the printer front door
and remove the supplies as seen in these illustrations ‑ opening the front door and supply removal.

Remove the toner cartridge
from the imaging unit
to separate the two supplies as seen here.

Insert the toner cartridge back into the imaging unit, install the supplies back into the printer, and close the front door as seen in these illustrations ‑ reinstalling the imaging unit and closing the front door.

If the error persists, replace the Imaging Unit
