LEXMARK CARD AUTHENTICATION Readme for version 2.16.12 1. OVERVIEW This Readme file pertains to the current release of the LEXMARK CARD AUTHENTICATION application. Lexmark Card Authentication is an embedded solution that can be installed on printers that support the Lexmark Embedded Solutions Framework (eSF) v4.x, v3.x, or v2.x. Card Authentication locks out the printer until a user authenticates with a badge. It secures access to the printer using a user-defined security server or another printer as a server. 2. Memory: The printer must have a minimum of 256MB of RAM. c. License: This application requires an electronic license. To obtain a license, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. d. Card reader and driver: This application requires a card reader and an appropriate driver for card login. To obtain these items, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. 4. LIMITATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY OF THE RELEASE a. The card reader and driver are sold separately. To purchase the card reader, go to www.lexmark.com, and then click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. b. The card reader and driver do not support MX410 and CX410. c. Users must register with a badge through a card reader to use a printer. If a different card reader model is used, then it may not recognize the badge. Either use the same card reader model, or register the card again when prompted. d. If any authentication applications except Smart Card (for example, PKI and Cloud Authentication Client) and idle profile applications (for example, Background and Idle Screen, HD Monitor, and Showroom) are installed before Card Authentication is installed, then these applications may not run. Uninstall existing authentication and idle profile applications before installing Card Authentication. See the Administrator’s Guide. e. The maximum number of client printers that can be registered is 23. f. Logging in to a printer using Card Authentication is not needed to perform host-based printing. g. Login Screen Text is limited to 256 characters. Text that is more than 256 characters does not show properly on the screen. h. Validating a badge in the backup or client is not possible while the master is updating firmware. Either wait until the master printer reboots, or wait until the update is completed. i. When Smart Card Authentication is used, Manual Access Control must be set to Smart Card Authentication Client and Card Validation must be set to None. See the Administrator’s Guide. j. Use only one card reader. 5. FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED a. If Card Authentication is redeployed and upgraded while a PcProxx or an Elatec card reader device is still attached to the printer, then users may not be able to log in using a badge. The card reader device must be reinserted, or the printer must be restarted. 6. RELEASE NOTES * Bug fixes. For more information on installation and configuration instructions, see the Lexmark Card Authentication Administrator's Guide provided with the application. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view this guide.
