Lexmark eSF Background and Idle Screen

1. OVERVIEW

   This README file pertains to the current release of the Lexmark eSF
   Background and Idle Screen application for Multifunction Printers 
   (MFPs).

   The Lexmark eSF Background and Idle Screen application is an embedded 
   Java application that is installed as a flash file on MFPs that support
   the Lexmark Embedded Solutions Framework (eSF).  The application allows
   for a timed idle screen to appear as well as a custom background to be
   featured on the MFP touchscreen.

2. REQUIREMENTS

   a. A multifunction printer that supports eSF applications.
     
      Supported printers include:

	  * X651de, X652de, X654de, X656de, X658de
	    * Note: These devices require firmware level LR.MN.P128 or later.

	  * X466dwe, X466dte, X466de, X464de, X463de
 	    * Note: These devices require firmware level LR.BS.P072 or later.

	  * X738de, X736de, X734de
	    * Note: These devices require firmware level LR.FL.P091 or later.

			
   b. Memory: The device must have a minimum of 256MB RAM.

   c. Image file requirements for the home screen background and idle screen
       
       A GIF/JPEG/PNG image
       A file size no larger than 128KB
       Home screen background image size (in pixels):  800x405
       Idle screen image size (in pixels):  800x480 

3. PACKAGE CONTENTS

   The following files and publications are included in the Background and
   Idle Screen v2.0.1 package (idleScreen-2.0.1.exe):

4. INSTALLATION DETAILS

   A detailed method for installation can be found in the Administrator's
   Guide located in the software package. 
         
5. KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE RELEASE
  
   a. Idle screen can be set by the administrator to start after a specified
      idle time interval.  

   b. Home screen background can be changed with this application.

   c. Administrator can provide a separate custom image for the idle screen
      and for the home screen.  

   NOTE:  Image file requirements in Section 2.c.
     
6. LIMITATIONS AND COMPATIBILITY OF THE RELEASE

   a. The application only works with GIF, JPEG, and PNG images.  The
      application will allow you to select and upload any other image types,
      but the image will not appear on the touchscreen. 

   b. In some instances, an OS will round down the size of a file.  When this
      happens, you may see a file size less than or equal to the specified
      size limit, when in reality, it is larger and the application will not
      load the file.  Best practice is to check the properties of any image
      file before you upload it to ensure the file size is within the sizing
      restrictions.  To do this, right click on the image and select
      properties (assuming Windows OS).  Next to "Size:" you will see the
      rounded size with the actual size next to it in parentheses.  The
      number in parentheses will be what the MFP uses to establish file size.

   c. The "Test" button on the image upload screen is not active.

   d. If you upload an image that does not comply with the specifications in
      section 2.c and click the "View Current Image" link, you may see the
      incorrect image. However, once this page has been refreshed, the link
      will display the correct image.

   e. The ability to configure the Background and Idle Screen component
      using MarkVision Professional (MVP) depends on the size of your selected
      image(s). If you are unable to configure Background and Idle Screen
      using MVP, select images with smaller file sizes or use the embedded
      web server to configure instead.
