Problem

Error: "Cover open, please close the cover"; Cover open error although cover is actually closed; Cannot turn printer off without disconnecting the power cable

Solution

What you will see

The printer displays a 'Cover open, please close cover' error message, even though the cover is closed.

Possible cause of the error

This can happen if the lever on the cover open sensor is knocked off the switch assembly.

What to do

Take the following steps to try to determine if there is a hardware fault:

 1Remove and replace the cartridges from the printer.
 2Disconnect the power cable and the USB cable.
 3Check that the power cable is plugged directly into a wall socket.
 4Reconnect the power cable.
 5Close the printer cover.
 6If the error persists, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for further instructions.
