1 | Close all programs currently open. |
2 | Make sure the printer is turned on and the USB cable is available. |
3 | Visit the www.lexmark.com and download the latest available driver package or insert the installation CD. |
4 | Start the installer package or the installation CD by double-clicking on it.

5 | Click Install to start the installation. The License Agreement for Lexmark 5400 Series installation will appear.

6 | In order to proceed with the installation, you need to click I Agree. The installation process will take a few minutes. A status bar will indicate its progress. The upper indication bar shows the overall installation progress while the lower indication bar shows the progress of the particular set of files that is being installed. |
7 | When asked plug in the USB cable and cancel any Add New Hardware Wizard screens that appear. |
8 | If you want to print an alignment page, place a checkmark ( Ö ) in the box and click Continue. Otherwise just click Continue. The Additional Software Setup screen appears.

9 | If you want to install the Lexmark Web Toolbar for Internet Explorer 5.5 or later, place a check mark in the appropriate box. If you want to launch the Fax Setup Wizard to set up your printer for faxing, place a check mark in the appropriate box. (For more details about the Fax Setup Wizard, see this document.) Click Continue. |
10 | You will be asked whether or not you want share the printer with other users. Make your selection and click Continue. |
11 | When the Printing Opportunities screen appears, click Continue. The Registration screen appears next. |
12 | If you don't want to register your Lexmark printer online or participate in Lexmark's Connect program, deselect both options. Click Continue. |
13 | Click Finish to complete the installation. |
