Solution

Overview

When an 84 PC Life Warning/84 Photoconductor Life Warning message appears, you should order a new photoconductor kit. This message indicates that the photoconductor unit in the printer is near its maximum usage rating.
You can print a few hundred pages after the Life Warning message appears. However, to ensure print quality and to avoid damage to the printer, the printer will stop operating after the photoconductor unit has reached a maximum of 110% of its official end-of-life rating (approximately 30,000 single-sided pages). At that point, the message 84 Replace Photoconductor will be displayed. You will then be required to replace the photoconductor unit and reset the photoconductor (PC) counter in order to get the printer operational again.

About the 84 Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning

The printer can be set to display this error message a few hundred pages before the photoconductor reaches its expected life rating of 30,000 single-sided pages. This is done by changing the Toner Alarm setting. (The Toner Alarm setting can be found in the printer menus under Settings > Setup Menu.) The default Toner Alarm setting is Off. If Toner Alarm is set to Single or Continuous, the printer will will display the message 84 Photoconductor Life Warning before the photoconductor kit reaches its maximum limit.
Replace the photoconductor unit when you first receive the 84 Photoconductor Life Warning message. While the printer may continue to function properly after the photoconductor unit has reached its official end-of-life rating, the print quality can begin to decrease. The photoconductor will stop operating once it has reached a maximum of 110% of its life. At this point, the message 84 Replace Photoconductor will be displayed.
