Step | Action |
1 | Power off the printer. |
2 | Try reinstalling the toner cartridge and the photoconductor unit. One or both of these supplies may not be seated correctly inside the printer.
- Remove the photoconductor unit and toner cartridge together at the same time. NOTE: Together they are collectively known as the print unit.
- Reinstall the print unit into the printer. Ensure that it is fully installed into the printer.
- Power on the printer and try printing again.
- If that does not correct the issue, power off the printer. Remove and reinstall only the toner cartridge. Ensure that the toner cartridge is fully installed.
- Power on the printer and try printing again.
For instructions on how to remove and install the toner cartridge or the print unit, please refer to the printer's Users Guide.

3 | Ensure that the printer correctly recognizes the size of media that is loaded in each paper tray.
- Use the Local Printer Setup Utility program on the computer or enter the printer menus using the buttons on the printer operator panel.
- Locate the Paper Size settings.
- Ensure that the paper size setting correctly matches the size of the media that is loaded in each paper tray.
- If any settings do not match, change the setting to correct the issue. Then try printing again.
|
4 | If the issue continues, try one of the following actions:
- If you have an extra toner cartridge in stock, replace the existing toner cartridge with a new one. Install the new toner cartridge into the printer and try printing again. If the print returns, the old toner cartridge is low on toner and needs to be replaced.
- If you do not have an extra toner cartridge in stock, remove and lightly shake the existing toner cartridge several times. This will redistribute any remaining toner. Install the toner cartridge back into the printer and try printing again. If the print returns or improves, the existing toner cartridge is low on toner and needs to be replaced.
|
5 | If the issue continues after you have checked or replaced the toner cartridge, try replacing the photoconductor unit/kit if you have an extra one in stock. For detailed instruction on how to replace a photoconductor unit, click here.
