Instgui and lx??coms Crash During Install

The Lexmark printer installer's instgui and/or lx??coms may fail and crash during installation. This article explains the reasons for this failure and how to resolve the issue.

The so-called "Zero Configuration Name" in the Lexmark Print Server settings ends with a dot or period (.).

Recommended Action

If you experience any of the above crash, follow the steps below.

Print the Network Setup Page and take note of the IP address. Please refer to instructions below for your corresponding printer model.

For Touchscreen-capable Printers:

  • Load plain paper.
  • From the home screen, navigate to Print Setup Page:
  •  > Network Setup > Print Setup Page

For Non-Touchscreen or Button Printers:

  • Load plain paper.
  • From the printer control panel, press
  • Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Network Setup, and then press .
  • Press to select Print Network Setup Page.

On your computer, open any web browser; e.g., Internet Explorer (IE), Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.

In the address bar, type the IP address, and then press Enter to get in to the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) page.

3 Click on Configuration and select TCP/IP.

If you see a dot or period (.) in the Zero Configuration Name field, rename it to something different.

IMPORTANT: The dot or period must be deleted from this field as this is the cause of the issue. Then click Submit.

Re-install the printer.
