Solution

This error occurs when the lexbce server has been stopped and cannot be restarted. To verify that this is what has occurred:

  1. Go to Start, Control Panels, Administrative Tools, Services.
Windows 2000: Go to Start, Settings, Control PanelAdministrative Tools, Services.

  2. Right click on the print spooler and select Properties.

  3. Click on Dependencies to view a list of all the system components that the print spooler depends on.

  4. Under Services, go to each of these dependencies and check the properties. In each case, ensure that the Startup type is set to Automatic, and that the Service status is set to Started.

  5. If one of the other services cannot be restarted, refer to the following document:  Error: "The Print Spooler is marked for deletion"

  6. If the lexbce server is stopped and cannot be restarted, follow the instructions under 'Extracting the lexbces.exe file' below.

Extracting the  lexbces.exe file:

  1. Go to Start, Search, All files and folders, type in lexbces.* and search the (C:) hard drive for this file. Delete any instances you find and then empty the recycle bin.

  2. The lexbces.ex_ file needs to be extracted from the CD-ROM. To find the correct path for this file, go to Start, Search, All files and folders, type in lexbces.* and search the CD-ROM. Take note of the correct path for this file. (See the table below.)

    Z13/Z23/Z33/Z34/44/54/25/35/45/55/65/65n

    D:\Drivers\Win_2000\lexbces.ex_

    Z43/Z53

    D:\Drivers\Winnt.4.0\language\lexbces.ex_

    X63

    D:\Drivers\Windows_2000\language\lexbces.ex_

    X73

    D:\Drivers\Win_2K\language\lexbces.ex_

    X74/X75/X1100/X5100/X6100/Z600/Z700/P700/P3100

    D:\Drivers\Win_XP2K\lexbces.ex_

  3. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.

  4. Type cd\ and press ENTER.

  5. Type cd windows and press ENTER.

Important! Make sure to leave a space between the underscore character ( _ ) after the file name and lexbces.exe - for example,
expand D:\Drivers\Win_2000\lexbces.ex_ lexbces.exe. The file will be extracted from the CD-ROM drive to the System32 folder.

Uninstalling the lexbces.exe file:
When this file has been extracted, it must be properly uninstalled from the system while you are still at the command prompt. Do the following:

  1. Type lexbces -u and press ENTER. You will receive confirmation that the file has been removed and that you have to delete one other lexbces.exe file manually. (See the image below.)

  2. Use the Search option to find the lexbces.exe file and then delete it from C:\Windows\System32.
Windows 2000: Delete the file lexbces.exe from C:\WINNT\system32.

  3. Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
Windows 2000: Go to Start, Settings, Control PanelAdministrative Tools, Services.
