When all of the lights on the printer are flashing, a 'service' error is normally involved. A service type error indicates that an issue or failure has occurred that the printer cannot recover from.  
For most service errors, the recommended action is to power the printer off and on and try printing again. If the error continues or returns at a later date, the printer will probably require service to correct the issue.  

Accessing the Secondary and Tertiary Codes

When seeking service or support on a printer with all lights flashing, it will help to obtain the secondary and tertiary error codes.

  • All lights flashing is the primary notification or code. 

  • A secondary light pattern (called the secondary code) will indicate the the function or area of the printer which has the error.

  • For some errors, there also exists a third light pattern (called the tertiary code) that will indicate the specific failure.

To see the secondary error code, press the  button twice when all of the lights are flashing. To see the tertiary error code, again press the  button twice. See the images below for an example.  NOTE: If you press the  button twice a second time and the lights remain the same or go from the secondary code back to all the lights flashing, a tertiary error code does not exist for the issue.

In the example above, the primary light pattern indicates a service error (all lights flashing). The secondary light pattern would indicate a failure with the fuser unit, toner sensor, or cooling fan. The tertiary light pattern indicates that the cooling fan has stalled. Press the  button twice again for the original primary light pattern.  
NOTE: Not all errors have tertiary codes. In addition, if data is sent to the printer and all the lights flash and double-clicking the  button does not produce a secondary code, there may be a code problem.
