Overview


This document offers solutions to resolve print-quality issues for Lexmark Inkjet All-in-One Products.

NOTE: Print quality issues can have different causes, see Print Samples below.

Unwanted Color Bars or Blocks Not Printing In Color Poor, Streaky Cyan, Magenta or Yellow Print Poor, Streaky or No Black/Mono

Troubleshooting:

For sample issues listed above, follow the steps detailed below them.

Item

Action

1 Remove printhead from the printer. (Click here for information on how to remove/replace the printhead.)
2 After removing the printhead, unplug the printer's power supply (located behind the printer).
3 Insert the power supply back after five to ten seconds, and switch the printer on.
4 The printer will then give a prompt to insert or install the printhead. Insert the printhead into the printer. (Click here for information on how to insert/install printhead.)
5 Print a sample page.

If the issue persists, update the printer's firmware. Click here to download and update its firmware.

Important! On the download page, select your computer's operating system before you download the firmware update utility for your printer. Click here to follow instructions on how to do a firmware update.

After the firmware has been updated, try printing a sample page.  

Note: For 'Poor Streaky or No Black/Mono and Poor' or 'Streaky Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow Print', after updating the printer's firmware you need to run Deep Clean Printhead on the printer.

 

 

Steps on how to a Deep Clean

For touch panel printers, please perform the steps below:

1 From the printer control panel, press  and select More Options.
2 Under More Options, locate and select Deep Clean Printhead.

For the non-touch panel printers, please perform the steps below:

1 From the printer control panel, pressand locate Maintenance. Press OK.
2 Use the arrow keys to locate Deep Clean Printhead and press OK.

 

No Mono/Black Print or Poor Mono/Black Print

Item Action
1 Update the printer's firmware. Click here to download and update the firmware.
2 Run Deep Clean Printhead.
3 If issue persists, call technical support if ink Mono/Black ink level is more than ¼.
4 If Mono/Black ink level is less than ¼, replace the cartridge.

 

One or Two or All Color Cartridges Not Printing

1 Update the printer's firmware. Click here to download and update the firmware.
2 Run a Deep Clean Printhead.
3 Check to verify the color cartridge ink levels of the cartridges not printing, If the ink level is less than ¼, replace the cartridge.
4 Call technical support if the ink level is more than ¼.

 

Large White (or Blank) Lines

1 Remove and reseat the printhead.
2 Update the printer's firmware. Click here to download and update the firmware.
3 If the issue persists, try removing and reseating the printhead again and do a test print.

 

Dark Horizontal Lines

Remove printhead and wipe its 'nose'. (See image below for details.)

2 Reseat printhead and do a test print.
3 If it is not recovered, update the printer's firmware. Click here download and update the firmware.
4 Do a test print after the firmware update and review the results or changes from the printout. 

 

Blank Printout / No Ink on Pages / All Colors Missing

1 Check the wicking pad to see whether it is white or not. If it is white, click here to follow instructions on how to do a Pen Diagnostic troubleshooting.
2 After following the Pen Diagnostic instructions, do a Deep Clean Printhead.
3 If it is still coming up with a blank printout, do a firmware update for the printer. Click here to download and update the firmware.
4 After the firmware update, do another Deep Clean Printhead. If it still fails to print, or if it produces a blank printout, contact Lexmark Technical Support.

 

Ink Spill Cyan or Magenta

To correct the issue, perform the steps below:

1 Update the printer's firmware. Click here to download and update the firmware.
2 After the firmware update, run Deep Clean Printhead.
3 If the issue persists, try removing and reseating the printhead and do a test print.
