Lexmark MS71x, MS81x, MX71x, & MX81x – 980.11 Service Error Posts when the Device Goes into Sleep Mode

Problem

980.xx; Error appears after upgrading firmware; Engine code and base code does not match

The printer posts 980.11 Service Error whenever it tries to enter Sleep mode.

Troubleshooting
 

You can clear the error and the printer will go back to Ready state simply by restarting it.

Once the printer is in Ready state, check the firmware levels installed in the device by printing its Menu Settings page. To do this, navigate through: Menu > Reports > Menu Settings page.

In this example, the Engine Code needs updating.

Verify whether both “Base” and “Engine” codes are updated to the latest released levels. Should any of the codes require updating, follow the subsequent steps to download and update your printer’s firmware.

 

How to download firmware


  1. Go to support.lexmark.com.
  2. Type your printer model in the “Enter Product Name” field and click  OR click on the picture of the correct printer model shown.
  3. Locate the “Downloads” tab.
  4. Select the version of the Operating System.
  5. Click the link available under "Firmware".

Once you have the latest firmware downloaded, proceed with any of the options below to perform the update.
