What you will see

Paper fails to exit the paper tray resulting in a 24x*.06 paper jam. In certain situations, the printer may print blank pages before it stops to display this error.

* x’ denotes the tray number, i.e.,  241.06 for Tray 1, 242.06 for Tray 2, etc.

Troubleshooting and avoiding paper jams

 Step  Action Yes  No

Check for third-party (non-genuine*) toner cartridges.

Check for toner leaking into the printer and toner overfilling the waste toner area (bottle) of the imaging unit.

Are cartridges genuine?

Is the tray drawer clean?

See next Step 2

Loose toner may be getting into the paper-feed assembly.

Lexmark recommends replacing any third-party toner cartridge or imaging unit with genuine Lexmark products. Lexmark is not liable for printer damage caused by remanufactured or third party (non-genuine) supplies.

Check for paper curled down or up.

Is the paper wavy and causing a downward or upward curl?

For example:

Improper paper storage...

leads to wavy paper, which...

can cause paper to curl down, or...

up in the tray.

Paper resting in the tray at an angle can stab into separator roll during the picking process.

Try a new ream of paper, or flip the existing stack over on the opposite side, and then retest.

 See next Step 3.
Step Action Yes No

Check the following relating to paper, tray loading, and general operation:

  • Is the paper weight and type is within specification*?
  • Is the paper level in the tray is below max fill line?
  • Are the tray size-guides set to correct media size and not too loose or tight?
  • Is the printer's location within it environmental operating specifications?
  • Is the paper being stored in an area and free from debris and humidity?

* Check the printer’s User’s Guide under the section Paper and specialty media guide.

Is paper/printer within their respective specifications, and is tray being loaded properly?

Fan paper, reload it and retest. If issue persists, see next Step 4.

Note: This can help remove dog ears or edge welds. This also helps prevent sheets from sticking together.

Correct the situation.

For example:

  • Use only recommended paper or specialty media. For more information, please check the printer’s User’s Guide under the section Paper and specialty media guide.
  • Check the tray's capacity limit. Common limits are 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 sheets depending on printer configuration.
  • The tray's side and rear guides so they secure the paper in position but not pinch paper. See also Tray loading below.

Afterwards, if issue persists, see next Step 4

Remove the paper tray, lower the pick arm assembly and check the condition of the pick tires for excessive wear or contamination.

Are pick rollers damaged or contaminated?

Yes, please call Lexmark Technical Support for further troubleshooting and service suggestions.
Go to Step 5.

With the paper tray still out of the printer, check the tray's rear paper-size restraint guide for any damage.

This can result in sheets jumping over the restraint guide, as seen in this illustraion below:

Is the restraint guide damaged?

If Yes or No, please call Lexmark Technical Support for further troubleshooting and service suggestions.
