This article discusses the troubleshooting steps that you can perform when a “945 Service Image Processor Unit Error” appears on your Lexmark X85x Multifunction Printer (MFP).

NOTE: Normally, the numeric error 945 pertains to a "Service Tray 5 Failure". Tray 5 is part of the optional high-capacity feeder. If the printer specifically displays this message, click here to follow the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

 

 

Troubleshooting

The error will most probably occur when you are trying to make a copy. If so, power off the printer and wait for 10-20 seconds before you power it back on.

  • If the error does not return on power up, go to Step 3 to download and install the latest printer firmware. 
     
  • If the error returns upon power up, proceed with the next step in order to bypass the error first.

Set the printer into “Invalid Engine Code” state. This should bypass the error posted on the printer and allow you to perform the update. To do this:

A Power off the printer.
B On the printer’s numeric keypad, press and hold the keys: 3, 6, 4.
C Power on the printer and wait until the progress bar reaches 50% before releasing the keys.
D Wait until the printer boots up and displays “Invalid Engine Code”.

Note: If the error persists or if “Invalid Engine Code” does not display, repeat steps AD. Otherwise, continue with the next step.

Download the printer’s latest code from Lexmark Support Website. Use the appropriate Authorization Key Code below. Save the file and extract it to the same directory.

Update the code using any of the methods below.

Embedded Web Server (EWS) Recommended Open a browser and enter the IP address of the printer. Select Settings > Update Firmware.
