The multifunction printer's operator panel displays a ‘900.80 Service RIP Software’ error.

Troubleshooting

Perform the following steps to determine whether a service call is required:

Steps Action
1 If this is the first time the issue has occurred, and the device is currently displaying a 900.80 error, switch off the MFP's power. Leave it powered off for 30 seconds or more to clear its memory.

Important! Do not power the MFP off and on too quickly. Doing so can cause a power issue and create this type of error.

2 While the MFP is off, clear any pending print jobs from the computer or the network queue. This will prevent any corrupted print jobs from being re-sent to the MFP when it is powered back on.
3 Power on the machine and observe the operation.
Did the error message return?

Yes:
If the 900.80 error returns at power up or when you try to print again, continue with Step 4 or go to Contacting Lexmark.
No: If the 900.80 error does not appear on the MFP screen, use the MFP operator panel to print a menu settings page. If the MFP now prints correctly, continue normal use. Pay close attention to the printer over the next few days, however, to see if the issue returns.

Note:
If you have already tried powering the printer off and on, skip ahead to Step 4.

4 Power the MFP off and disconnect all communication cables (i.e., the parallel, Ethernet, and USB cables). The only cable that should be connected to the printer at this time is the power cord. (There might be a problem with either the printer, a communication cable, or the print job itself.)
5 If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a grounded wall outlet. Lexmark recommends that laser printers should be thus connected with no extension cord, power strip, surge protectors, or UPS. For a detailed explanation, please click here.

Note:
This step is especially important if the 900.80 error occurs intermittently. Power strips, surge protectors, extension cords and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) can trigger a false 900.80 error. This is true even if the MFP has previously worked on your surge device. If this test is not possible, confirm that the surge device is switched on and functioning correctly. To verify that, try plugging another device (a light or a fan) into the same outlet.

6 Power on the machine and observe the operation.
