Overview

Issues with this product are actually known behaviors that later updates of the Lexmark Cloud product will address.

Be aware of these known behaviors when using this product, and follow the recommendations provided below.

Intervention required status prevents enrollment

If the printer is not in a Not Ready state, then enrollment may not be successful.

Examples of intervention required (IR) states that may cause printer enrollment to fail:

  • Front cover open
  • Front or back door open
  • Tray missing/Tray open
  • Held jobs to restore during printer POR
  • Cartridge missing/Toner missing
  • Paper jam
  • Load Tray prompts

What to do

Check the printer's Ready state when enrollment is failing. If Not Ready, remove the condition from the printer and then retry printer enrollment.

Inclusive filters

Within the printer list displayed on the main page of the Printer Configuration portal, the side navigation filter selections behave as follows:

If… Then…
Between filter categories (i.e., features, model, location, etc.)... Filtering is exclusive.
Within a filtered category... Filtering is inclusive.

For example:

First, you select... Second, and with ALL mono printers displayed, you select the… Expected outcome
Observed issue
Black and White to filter all monochrome printers... Hard Disk feature filter... List with monochrome printers containing HDDs. Screen includes (displays) printers that support both Color and Mono printing from the prior selection.

Hence, the filtered list contains a union of printers based on the selections made.

What to do

It is recommended to use a single selection as a filter in order to avoid potential confusion with the filtering feature.

Security settings

Function Access Controls (Security) prevents enrollment

If your printer has been secured using Security configuration options, your printer’s internal security settings for Local Account can prevent enrollment of the printer.

Verify that the following FACs/Permissions are enabled or checked for the listed eSF Platform version:

eSF Platform FACs / Permissions Operations Steps
eSF V5.0 Import/Export All Settings Enables configuration operations through the Printer Configuration Agent Login to the Embedded Web Server > Go to Security > Local accounts > Manage groups and permissions > click on Admin group.
Apps Configuration Enables the Printer Configuration Agent to be installed and later updated if a new update or version becomes available. Login to the Embedded Web Server > Go to Security > Local accounts > Manage groups and permissions > click on Admin group.
Security Menu Enables the Printer Configuration Agent to create the necessary User Account and Administration Group on the printer in order to support configuration operations Login to the Embedded Web Server > Go to Security > Local accounts > Manage groups and permissions > click on Admin group.
eSF V4.0 Configuration File Import / Export Enables configuration operations through the Printer Configuration Agent Login to the Embedded Web Server > Go to Security > Access controls > Expand the Management menu.
eSF V3.0 Firmware Updates Enables the Printer Configuration Agent to create the necessary User Account and Administration Group on the printer in order to support configuration operations Login to the Embedded Web Server > Go to Security > Access controls > Expand the Management menu.

Other conditions that can impact printer enrollment

If… Then… Details (Failure/Outcome)
Your printer is secured

‘Mono’ and ‘Color printing’ permissions must be given to public, or more specifically, these permissions must not be removed (unchecked) from public.

If these settings are not in place, print jobs will be automatically stopped and flushed from the system.

Important! These settings must be verified and changed outside of the Lexmark Cloud system. The ‘Printer Configuration’ feature does not establish these settings during the ‘Deploy Configuration’ process.

Printer Configuration Agent is stopped using the printer’s Embedded Web Server… Restart the agent.

Enrollment and subsequent configuration operations will not function correctly until the Agent is restarted.
This results in non-valid state for the Printer Configuration Agent.

The printer can be discovered successfully, but the printer cannot be enrolled.
During the enrollment process, your printer is secured with a custom internal user/Password/PIN credentials… Use the same credentials when prompted for printer credentials. This ensures a successful enrollment.
Enrolling multiple printers at the same time… Select the printers which are secured with the same credentials and enroll them together.

Repeat by selecting the next set of printers with common credentials, and so on, until enrollment is complete.
Mixing printers with differing security configurations can result in enrollment failures.
