Cartridge Not Recognized on the Lexmark X63 / X125

Problem

Cartridge not recognized; Error: "Add Right Cartridge"; Error: "Change Black Ink"; Error: "Add Left Cartridge"; Error: "Low Ink Cartridge"; Error: "Add Cartridge"; "New Black Cartridge" message stays on the display

Environment

Microsoft Windows 98; Microsoft Windows Me; Microsoft Windows 2000; Microsoft Windows XP; Installed new cartridge or changed cartridge

Solution


  1. Clear the printer memory on the X63/ X125. Refer to the following documents for instructions:
                   How to Clear the Printer Memory on the Lexmark X63
                   How to Clear the Printer Memory on the Lexmark X125
     

  2. Snap the cartridges in and out three times.

  3. On the operator panel, press Options to indicate which cartridges were changed.

  4. Press Start / Yes (on the Lexmark X63, press Start).

  5. Press Options to indicate the type of cartridge you installed.

  6. Press Start / Yes (on the Lexmark X63, press Start).

  7. If the problem persists, do the following:


    1. With the printer powered on, remove both cartridges.

    2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer

    3. With the printer disconnected, insert the cartridges and reconnect the power cable.
