Lexmark CS92x, CX92x and XC9225 – Fuser Smudge Seen on the Printouts

Toner contamination to the Fuser detack causes a smudge in the middle of the page.




Print samples

The smudge appears as a black streak on the printouts. This will appear to about 30 to 50 pages.

Recommended service action

Perform these steps below to fix the issue:

Examine the fuser and clean to remove toner collection on the detack. In the sample images below, the fuser detacks are encircled in red.

Note: Run test page after cleaning to verify lines are gone. This will drop off by itself as well in less than 100 pages approximately.

Clean the laser lens with the laser lens cleaner. See Cleaning printhead lens for the steps.

Remove the Waste Toner Bottle (WTB) and check whether it is already full. If not, try to shake it for good measure in order to prevent clogging. Perform the following recommendations:

  • Give the WTB a shake to avoid the toner from building up.
  • Make sure the printer is running in an environment that has a temperature below 86 °F (30 °C).
  • Change the WTB, if it is already full.

Note: Replace the WTB even if it is not yet full and the toner build up issue is already present.

Cleaning the printhead lens

This procedure will guide you on how to clean the printhead lens.

Step Action Image

Open the printer's front door. Remove the waste toner bottle.

Note: Change the waste toner bottle should it be already full. If not, remove it from the printer and try to shake it.

2 Using the printhead wiper, clean the printhead lens.  


Insert the wiper back into place.


4 Insert the waste toner bottle, and then close the door.
