Suggested remedy

For Inkjet printers:

Use the USB TWAIN scan path instead of WIA.

For Laser printers:

Upgrade your WIA scan driver to the latest version available using Windows Update (WU). To do so, perform either of the following methods:

Method 1: Manually Update the Installed Driver

Right-click the Start button, and then click Device Manager.

Right-click the WIA scan driver, and then click Update Driver Software.

Select "Search automatically for updated driver software" to download and update the WIA scan driver from WU.

Method 2: Automatically Update the Installed Driver

Go to Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click the computer object under the Devices section, and then click on Device Installation Settings.

Select "Yes, do this automatically (recommended)", and then click on Save Changes.
Connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable to automatically download the latest WIA scan driver from WU.

NOTE: If this setting is applied, any other device drivers installed on the system will also be upgraded to the latest driver available from WU.
