This help pertains to the following solutions:

  • Scan to MobileMe

  • Scan to Picasa

  • Scan to Photobucket

These solutions let you send a scanned item directly from your printer to an online file or photo sharing site. When you create a solution in the SmartSolutions Center, enter the upload by e-mail address associated with your site account and set default values for frequently used settings such as quality and size of original. You can then load the item into the printer and touch the customized solution icon on the printer's SmartSolutions menu to scan the item to the site using the specified settings.

For more information on adding solutions to the printer from the computer, see the SmartSolutions User's Guide.

Notes:

  • You must have an account with the file or photo sharing site to use with this solution.
  • You must complete E-mail Setup on the printer before configuring this solution. Touch the wrench icon on your printer control panel, then touch E-mail Setup. For more information on setting up e-mail functionality, see the User's Guide that came with the printer.
  • Use the scanner glass to scan photos. Do not use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to scan photos or other small items.
  • Configuring the solution from the SmartSolutions Center

  • Using the solution from the printer control panel

Configuring the solution from the SmartSolutions Center

Use the following settings to configure and customize the solution:

  • Name—Enter a unique name for the solution.

  • Icon—Click Browse Icons to choose an icon to represent the solution on the printer's SmartSolutions menu.

  • E-mail To—Enter the upload by e-mail address associated with the online file or photo sharing site. For more information on finding the upload by e-mail address, see the site help.

Note: The upload by e-mail address is an address that is automatically generated by the site. It is different from your personal e-mail address.

  • File Type—Specify whether to send the scanned item as a PDF or JPEG file.

Note: This setting may not be available for all solutions.

  • Scan Preview—Specify whether to preview the scan on the printer control panel before sending.

Note: Scan Preview is only available when scanning from the scanner glass. If Scan Preview is enabled, the solution will not work with the automatic document feeder (ADF).

  • Quality–Select the scan resolution in dots per inch (DPI). Each successive DPI value (75 DPI to 600 DPI) produces an output file approximately four times larger than that of the previous (smaller) DPI value.

  • Color–Specify whether to scan the item in color or black and white. Color scans produce output files approximately two times larger than the output files produced by black and white scans.

  • Size of Original–Specify the size of the original scanned item.

Using the solution from the printer control panel

Before using the solution from the printer control panel, make sure you have configured the solution using the SmartSolutions Center.

  1. Load the item you want to scan into the printer.

  2. Touch the SmartSolutions icon on the printer control panel.

  3. Touch the customized solution icon that you selected in the SmartSolutions Center.

The printer scans and e-mails the item to your account using the specified settings.
