"Scan was not successful" Error

This is almost always a situation in which the wrong printer is selected from the application.

Suggested steps to alleviate this error:

Step Action
1 Make sure the printer is READY.

Open Printers and Faxes.

Note: Accessing Printers and Faxes differs slightly between Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Printers and Faxes applies to Windows XP. Use Printers for Windows Vista and Devices and Printers for Windows 7 and Windows 8.

3 Identify the Default Printer.
4 Open Properties by right-clicking and select Print Test Page.
5 If the test page prints successfully, again open Lexmark Printer Home ().
6 Next to the picture of the printer, click the down-arrow to display the list of installed printers.

"No Compatible printers are installed" Error

Try printing a test page and reopen Lexmark Printer Home (LPH). If the problem persist, something went wrong with the initial printer software installation and the installation was never able to complete.

Suggested steps to alleviate this error:

  • Run Setup from the installation CD and reinstall the printer software. IMPORTANT! Do not abort the installation as this will prevent the TWAIN driver from being installed.
  • Make sure you can print to the printer.
  • Check the TWAIN folder for Lexmark. NOTE: This is usually found in C:\Windows\twain_32 > Lexmark.

Cannot press select "Document"

"Install OCR from installation CD" message is displayed within Lexmark Printer Home. Hence, the Optical Character Recognition(OCR) software component required to interpret and convert the scanned image into editable text will not be available.

Possible causes may included the following:

    • Conflicting versions of ABBYY™FineReader are installed on the PC.
    • More than one instance of the application is installed.
    • You have downloaded the web-based version of the printer driver. See IMPORTANT note below below for more information.

Recommended actions

Remove and reinstall ABBYY FineReader.

Step Action
1 Go to Add & Remove Programs or Program (Uninstall a  Program) located under Control Panel.
2 Locate ABBYY FineReader.
3 Select to Remove or Uninstall the application.

Reinstall the Abbyy software from the CD.

Note: Click here for an article detailing the steps on how to install Abby or OCR.

IMPORTANT! You will need your original driver CD. ABBYY's license agreement allows one license per printer purchase. This software is not available for download.

  • If available, attempt to use another software application's OCR component.
  • Contact Lexmark Technical Support if you are unable to locate your original driver CD.
