Solution

Overview

A ‘920.06 Service Fuser Error’ on a Lexmark X203n and X204n Series Printer indicates a possible issue with the Fuser Assembly inside the printer.

There are certain rare occurrences, such as a power fluctuation, or a stray static discharge in the vicinity of the printer, that can cause a false ‘920.06 Service Fuser Error’ message to display. In such cases, the error is temporary and can be easily resolved without service. Please follow the steps in the table below.

Troubleshooting

Step Action
1 Power off the printer.
2

Wait for 30 seconds, and then power on the printer again. Does the error message return?

Yes: Continue to Step 3 or go to Contacting Lexmark.

No: Print a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer. Observe the printer for the next few days to see if any fuser errors return.

NOTE: If you have already tried powering off and on the printer, skip ahead to Step 3.

3

If possible, power off the printer and connect the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet. Power on the printer again. Does the error message return?

NOTE: This step is especially important if the fuser errors occur intermittently. Power strips and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) can cause a low amperage problem which can trigger a false fuser error. This is true even if the printer has worked on this surge device previously.

Yes: Continue to Step 4 or go to Contacting Lexmark.

No: Print a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer. Observe the printer for the next few days to see if any fuser errors return.

4 Power off the printer and wait five minutes for the fuser lamp to cool. While the printer is off, continue with the steps below.
5 Open the front door and remove the photoconductor kit and toner cartridge. Check for any damaged parts inside the printer. If any seem damaged, a service call will likely be required to resolve the issue. See Contacting Lexmark at the end of this document for details.
6 Align and insert the photoconductor kit and toner cartridge, then close the front door.
7

After the five minutes have passed, power on the printer once more. Does the error message return?

Yes: A service call may be required. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance.

No: Print a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer. Observe the printer for the next few days to see if any fuser errors return.
