Exclamation Mark over the Fax Icon and a Flashing 'Red' or Solid 'Green' Light on the X65x, X45x Series Multifunction Printers

What you will see

Lost fax functionality and the following:  

  • -The Fax icon has a red exclamation mark on it (!).

  • -The LED* will blink red, or 

  • -The LED* will be green.      

Light emitting diode (LED) state depends on model and current code level.

Scenarios and suggestions

Scenarios (!) Suggestions MFP Series
  1. The MFP no longer detects the phone line or signal.  

  1. Connect a fax line you know that works to the device.

  2. Check for a faulty cord or phone jack.

  3. Confirm phone line is not plugged into USB or Ethernet port.  
  2. Fax configuration issue.   Verify that the required fax information (Station ID, Station Number) is configured on the device All

  3. You have elected to not to use the fax feature; however, this default-enabled feature was not disabled during the Initial Setup Wizard.

  • The LED blinks red.

  1. See suggestions for scenarios 1 and 2 above.

Early X65xe Series MFPs
NOTE: This includes the X651, X652, X654, and X658 series MFPs.
  4. You have elected to not use the fax feature; however, this default-enabled feature was not disabled during the Initial Setup Wizardb.

  • The LED will remain green.

IMPORTANT! Once a phone line has been attached, the exclamation mark should disappear from the Fax icon. However, if the fax line then becomes disconnected, the exclamation mark will re-appear over the Fax icon and the LED will blink red.

X46x Series MFPs.
  5.  Your model version of the product is not equipped with a fax modem and fax server mode is enabled. Click here for more information. MFP models not equipped with a fax option card.

 Procedure: Disable via Run Initial Setup

WARNING! This option disables the feature in question. You can either run the Initial Setup again or enter Menus to re-enable the function.   
Perform the following:
  1. From the operator panel, select Menus > Settings > General Settings > Run Initial Setup > Select Yes > Submit, and then reboot the MFP.
    Optional embedded web server: Settings > General Settings > Run Initial Setup > Submit, and then reboot the MFP.
  2. Follow setup steps through Language, Country, Time Zone until you reach Functions to Enable.
  3. Deselect the FAX function by removing the check mark next to it.
  4. Click Continue and finish the initial setup.

Procedure: Disable function through Menus

You can disable these functions via the operator panel by pressing the following color touch-screen buttons:
  1. Menus
  2. Security
  3. Edit Security Setups
  4. Edit Access Controls
  5. Scroll to the Fax function(s) and change the status to Disabled.
  6. Click Submit

NOTE: The function icon will disappear from the User Interface.
