Solution

What you will see

The All-In-One (AIO) will not respond to print or scan commands after entering 'power save' mode.

Additional indicators of this issue

In combination with the above symptom, you should observe the following:

    • A green Wi-Fi light indicating normal printer to access point (AP) communication.
    • A period of time has passed since you last used the printer.
    • A software 'communication error' appears on your screen.
    • A hard power reset, or complete removal and reinsertion of the power supply, seems to resolve the issue.
    • After you reset the printer and resend or restart the print job, communication is reestablished.

Resolution: AIO firmware upgrade

Two firmware updates are available to resolve this issue:
  • Printer firmware, and
  • Network firmware

Before you upgrade

It is recommended that you check your current printer and network code level.  To do this:

-Print the Test page for the printer code level. (Go to Maintenance menu on LCD > Select > Print Test Page.)
-Print the network settings page  for the network code level.

If... Then...
Network code revision is below .N206 (e.g., NET.MH.N204) Update the network code.
Printer code level is below A060408
(e.g., 7500_A051807*_00)

Update the printer code.
Printer and network code are already at .N206 and A060408. Click here for an article which describes other communication failure possibilities.

Procedure: Network Code Update via USB Connection

Make sure the USB cable is connected between printer and computer and that the printer is set as the Default PrinterNOTE: It is not necessary to change the printer port.
Step Action
1 Click here to download the network card firmware code for USB-connected printers.

2 When prompted to Save or Run, select Save and choose a location that is easy to find.  Windows Desktop is recommended.
3 After the download is complete, double-click on the .exe (self-extracting executable) file.
  4
The following should occur:

  • A command prompt window opens with a message similar to Using printer 1.

  • A blinking cursor.

  • green flashing Wi-Fi indicator light displays on the printer.

  • The message Updating INA FW/ Do Not Power Off Machine on the printer.
NOTE: If the light is not flashing, make sure the printer's menu system is not displaying an end-user request function (such as load plain paper). Click X to cancel the displayed function.
5 You will see a message to Wait while your device restarts. (Click here for image.)
6 The Utility displays a progress bar, and the printer displays Updating firmware, Do Not Power Off Machine.
7 Firmware Update Complete will appear at the end of the update.

Procedure: Network Code Update via Network Connection

IMPORTANT! Make sure your computer and printer are communicating with the AP/wireless router. If not, connect a USB cable and follow the above procedure.
NOTE: The fact that your computer is hard-wired into the router with an ethernet cable is not a guarantee that the built-in AP (wireless radio) is sending out network data. You can be connected to the AP, but not to the network. Successful Wi-Fi communication requires radio transmission of network traffic.

Step Action
1 Click here to download the network card firmware code for network-connected printers.
2 When prompted to Save or Run, select Save and choose a location that is easy to find.  Windows Desktop is recommended.
3 After the download is complete, double-click on the .exe (self-extracting executable) file.
4 A command prompt window will open, asking for entry of the AIO's IP address.
HINT: Refer to the network settings page you printed earlier.
5 Press Enter on the keyboard.
  6
The following should occur:

  • An FTP session will open and begin the transfer of the firmware.

7 You will see a message to Wait while your device restarts. (Click here for image.)
8 The Utility displays a progress bar, and the printer displays Updating firmware, Do Not Power Off Machine.
9 Firmware Update Complete will appear at the end of the update.

Procedure: Printer Box Firmware Update

NOTE: This procedure requires a USB connection to the printer.
Step Action
1 Lastly, click here to download the printer firmware code.
2 When prompted to Save or Run, select Save and choose a location that is easy to find.  Windows Desktop is recommended.
3 When the download is complete, double-click on the .exe (self-extracting executable) file.
4 Accept the License Agreement, and click Next.
5 The AIO Firmware Update Utility will open and display an update confirmation. Click Yes.
