The user interface (UI) or color touch screen is black or has no icon function buttons; however, if you press areas of the screen where the icons were previously, there is resultant activity. In other words, if the user remembers where the icon for Copy should be and pushes that portion of the screen, the scanner scans and the printer prints as normal.
There are three cables (power, serial, and VGA)* leading into the user interface. Also, there is a contrast knob on the left side of the control panel enclosure.
The three likely causes of this anomaly are:
The VGA cable has become disconnected or is faulty. Someone has adjusted the contrast knob. An LCD lamp failure is preventing the icons from appearing.
*7- pin (56P2042) power cable, 14-pin (56P2110) serial, and 15-pin (56P2112) VGA cable.
Try adjusting the contrast knob to see if the graphical user interface (GUI) reappears. Otherwise, call Lexmark Technical Support for further diagnosis and, if necessary, service.
Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for service, you will need to know your scanner machine type and serial number.
Please call from near the MFD in case the technician asks you to perform a task involving the device.
