What you will see


If the printer software is installed while the Windows firewall is turned off, a communication problem can ensue between the printer and the computer. 


Proposed solution


Set the exceptions manually to ensure that the Lexmark exceptions have been selected.

Category view:
Click on Security Center. Under Manage Security Settings for:, click on Windows Firewall.
Classic view:
Double-click on Windows Firewall.

Vista category view:
Click SecurityWindows FirewallChange Settings.
Classic view:
Double-click on Windows Firewall, then click on Change Settings.
Observe the message Windows needs your permission to continue, and click ContinueNOTE:  Any link or program with the Windows security shield (see image to the right) requires an administrator password unless you are logged on as administrator.

Verify that the following entries are all selected:

  • -Lexmark printer_name (e.g. 2500, 7300) Series Server

  • -BorgListener

  • -Job Status Window Interface

  • -Lexmark Communications System

  • -Lexmark Device Monitor 

  • -Lexmark Productivity Studio / Imaging Studio 

If any of these entrie is not selected, click the check box to select it and then click Apply.

Verify that the following entries are all selected:

  • -Lexmark printer_name (e.g. 2500, 7300) Series Server

  • -BorgListener

  • -Job Status Window Interface

  • -Lexmark Communications System

  • -Lexmark Device Monitor 

  • -Lexmark Productivity Studio / Imaging Studio 

If any of these entrie is not selected, click the check box to select it and then click Apply.

NOTE:  Leaving the Windows firewall turned off is not recommended unless you are actively running third-party firewall software solutions.  Third-party applications can also cause network communication issues.  Click here for an article describing this possibility.
