Printer Is Printing Out Blank Pages

Problem

Pages are completely blank; No print on the page; No toner on the page; Extra page printing out

Solution


    First check whether something in the software/driver is causing the problem. To find out whether the program/computer is sending the blank page over to the printer, have the printer print out an internal fonts list. This list should be anywhere between three and five pages long.
     

    1. Press the button next to Menus.

    2. Now press the button next to Tests Menu. (If you do not see Tests Menu listed, press More until you find it.)

    3. Press the More button until you find Print Fonts as an option. Press the button next to Print Fonts.

    4. Now press the button next to PCL. The printer should print a fonts list. If no blank pages come out, something in the software is probably causing the problem.
       

    If blank pages are printed with the internal fonts list, there are two settings on this printer you can check: Separator Sheets and Blank Pages. Both these settings are listed under the PAPER MENU selection on your printer.



    1. Check these settings by printing out a menu settings page from the printer.

    2. Press the button next to Menus.

    3. Now press the button next to Tests Menu. (If you do not see Tests Menu listed, press More until you find it.)

    4. Press the More button until you find Print Menus.

    5. Select Print Menus. The page is printed.

    6. Look under the Paper Menu section for the settings mentioned - Separator Sheets should be set to None, and Blank Pages should be set to Do not Print. If these settings are not correct, change them as follows: 


      1. Press the button next to Menus on your printer screen. A new list of menus will appear.

      2. Now press the button next to PAPER MENU. Another new menu list will appear.

      3. Press the button next to the word MORE until you see either Separator Sheets or Blank Pages. Press the button next to the required choice.

      4. Once you have made the first choice, press the Return button once. Return to step 3 if you need to change the other setting.

      5. Once you have changed all the settings, press the Return button repeatedly to return the printer to the READY status.

    7. If you had to change either or both of these settings, try powering off and on the printer to see if that fixes the problem.
       


  • If you continue to get blank pages, check the paper size settings for all of the paper trays on the menu settings page.
     


    1. Check whether the printer recognizes the correct size of paper loaded in all the trays.

    2. If it does not, pull out the paper tray(s) involved and look at the guides in the affected tray(s).

    3. Make sure the guides are in the proper positions as the guide positions "tell" the printer what size paper is loaded.
       
  • If the blank pages continue, try printing from each paper tray individually. If the problem occurs from only one particular paper tray, the paper guide fingers may be broken on this tray.

    1. Pull the suspect paper tray all the way out of the printer. There should be three or four white fingers on the back of the tray. These are the paper size fingers.
    2. If one of them is broken,  use the other tray of the printer as a temporary fix until this one can be repaired.

  • Make sure the paper is not sticking to itself. This will cause two sheets to pull out of the tray when the printer thinks it is pulling only one. The pick rollers on these printer models touch ONLY the top sheet of the stack. Accordingly, if the sheets of paper feed out one directly on top of the other, the problem is caused by the top two sheets sticking to one another. This is especially true if this stock has any sort of perforations (like some check stocks) or holes punched into it (such as three-holed or five-holed paper).

    To test this, try printing the exact same print job on some unprinted regular copy paper. This will eliminate special media as part of the cause. If the multiple feed occurs only with special stock, no service can be done to the printer to fix this.


    • To help keep the sheets from sticking to one another, fan the paper before you install it into the printer. Sometimes the paper will settle if it has been in the package too long. Try to fan ALL four edges of the paper prior to loading it into the tray. This will help break up any bonds formed.

    • If the paper has been in the tray for more than a week and you start having multiple feeds, take the paper out of the tray and fan it.

    • Do not overload the paper tray. This will result in more friction between the pages and could cause more than one to feed at a time.

    • Also check the guides in the paper tray. They should be snug up against the paper, but not putting any unnecessary pressure on it.
       
  • If the print is more faded than completely blank, the toner cartridge may be low. Try the following:

    1. To utilize the remaining toner, remove the cartridge by gripping the handles with both hands.
    2. With the cartridge arrows pointing downward, lightly shake the print cartridge back and forth.
    3. Reinstall the cartridge and try printing again. 
    4. If that does not fix the problem, try replacing the toner cartridge.
