Description

Apple's Wi-Fi Base Stations include USB ports for printers. When a printer is attached to one of these routers via USB, the printer is made available over the base station's network. Lexmark's latest printer drivers now support this connectivity with Mac OS X 10.5 and later.

Steps

Turn Airport or Time Capsule on and connect your Mac to the network.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Wi-Fi base station.
Open System Preferences and go to Print & Fax.
Click the “+” button.
Select the printer from the list of detected printers.
Under "Print Using", select printer driver with matching series name.
Click "Add".

Supported Features

Only printing is supported in this type of connection.

Limitations

Scanning is not supported with this connection.
Maintenance functions are also not supported. Opening the Lexmark Printer Utility will generate a "Communication is not available" error.

Requirements

For 2009 S and Pro Series

The Wi-Fi Base Station must be 802.11 n-capable. See http://www.apple.com/wifi/ for a list of Apple Wi-Fi base stations.
Mac OS X 10.5 and later (includes Mac OS X 10.6)

For Older X & P & Z Series

Support for this feature is also available for older Lexmark printers, but only under Mac OS X 10.6. This feature is not supported in drivers for older Mac OS versions for the same models. For information on where to get the drivers for 10.6, please refer to Lexmark Technical Support website at http://support.lexmark.com/
