Lexmark Snow Leopard Driver Availability


Drivers for many Lexmark printers are included in Mac OS X 10.6. A complete list of supported products is available at Home or Small Office/Home Office compatibility list and  Laser/Business printer compatibility lists. This article contains instructions for installing the drivers included on the Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) DVD.

Operating System Driver Support
 
USB connected printers are fully supported by the drivers included on the Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD. For wireless printers you will need to download new drivers from www.lexmark.com

 
Driver Delivery
 
Drivers will be available for download from www.lexmark.com. Recently released printers may also have the Snow Leopard driver available on the Software and Documentation CD provided in the box with the device. For such printers, a combination of both driver delivery methods will be available.

 

 
Future Products
 
Starting 2010, all new products will ship with Snow Leopard support.
 
How to install drivers bundled with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

IMPORTANT: Follow these steps only if your driver is listed as provided with the Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) installation disc. If you are not sure, please check the Home or Small Office/Home Office compatibility list for more information (click here for the Laser/Business printer compatibility lists).

Plug and play

  1. Power on your printer.
  2. Attach your printer to your Mac using a USB cable.
  3. A print queue will automatically be created in Print & Fax for your printer.

Manual install

If no queue is created after plugging in the USB cable, follow these steps to manually create the queue. Do not detach the USB cable from your printer.

  1. Launch System Preferences.
  2. Select Print & Fax.
  3. Click + to add a print queue.
  4. Select the printer attached to your Mac from the list of detected printers.
  5. Click the Print Using dropdown list and click Select Printer Software.
  6. Search for the model that best matches your printer. NOTE: If you cannot find a matching model, see instructions below for installing the driver from the Snow Leopard installation disc.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Add.
  9. A print queue will be created in Print & Fax for your printer.

Driver is not available on your system

If your driver is listed in the compatibility list as provided with the Snow Leopard Installer DVD but no corresponding driver is listed in the Print Using dropdown list in Print & Fax, follow the instructions below to install the driver from the DVD.

Do not detach the USB cable from your printer.

  1. Insert the Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) installation disc.
  2. Open the Optional Installs folder and launch Optional Installs.
  3. Follow instructions until you reach the Installation Type portion of the installation.
  4. Expand Printer Support and select All Available Printers.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Install.
  7. Complete the installation.
  8. Launch System Preferences.
  9. Select Print & Fax.
  10. Click + to add a print queue.
  11. Select the printer attached to your Mac from the list of detected printers.
  12. Click the Print Using dropdown list and click Select Printer Software.
  13. Search for the model that best matches your printer.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Add.
  16. A print queue will be created in Print & Fax for your printer.

If you no longer have the Mac OS X 10.6 installation disc, please go to Lexmark.com for the latest drivers for Snow Leopard.
