Solution

Windows 9x:

  1. Go to Start, Shut Down, Restart in MS Dos mode.
  2. Change to the directory in which the engine code file is stored.
  3. Type Copy /b lptx.  (NOTE: The letter <x> in the command is replaced by the number of the parallel port on your computer to which the printer is connected.)
  4. Press ENTER.

Windows NT/2000/XP:

  1. Go to Start, Run.
  2. Type Command and click OK.
  3. Change to the directory in which the engine code file is stored.
  4. Type Copy /b lptx . (NOTE: The letter <x> in the command is replaced by the number of the parallel port on your computer to which the printer is connected.)
  5. Press ENTER.
    The computer screen should display: "1 file(s) copied"
    The printer screen should display: "Programming Engine Code...Do Not Power Off"
    After about 20 seconds, the printer should reset and then return to a Ready state.

To download the engine code: 
  1. Go to the Lexmark printer firmware site.
  2. Read the terms there and then enter the authorization keycode for the engine code you want to download. Locate the authorization code for your printer model in the following list (text in bold): 

    • Optra S (4059) series printers: 4059engn
    • Optra T610, Optra T612, Optra T614, Optra T616 printers: optrateng
    • Lexmark T520, Lexmark T522, Lexmark T620, and Lexmark T622 printers: lextengn
    • Lexmark T630, Lexmark T632, Lexmark T634 printers: e551416
    • Lexmark W812: eng204
