Insert the installation CD or initiate the driver-download extraction process.

For CD installation, if the Windows AutoPlay dialog appears, click Setup.exe.

Note: If AutoPlay is not turned ON, initiate the installation by clicking the logo start button > Computer > drive letter showing Lexmark. 

• Check Install and click Install. (See image 1.)
   
• If you would like to change your target install directory, select Extract and Install and then Browse to make your adjustments. (See image 2.)

When you see a User Account Control screen, click Continue.

Note: Administrator privileges are required for successful installation. 

Two choices:

• Select Yes. Recommended.
  
• Select No thanks if:
  
  
  • Your printer has previously been configured on another machine.
  • Your computer is already set up and you are installing it on another computer.

If you selected YES to step 7.

Perform the following unpacking and printer preparation steps, clicking Continue after each step performed:

Steps will vary slightly by printer model. 

1. Unpack the printer.
2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the printer.
3. Raise the operator panel.
4. Raise the paper support.
5. Extend the paper exit tray.
6. Load paper and adjust the guide.
7. Connect the power cord and check insertion of the power supply (brick).
8. Connect the power cord to the power supply and wall outlet.
9. Make sure the power is ON.
10. Set the language, if needed.
11. Set the country, if needed.

12. Raise the scanner unit.
13. Press down on the blue cartridge levers.
14. Remove the tape from the cartridges.
15. Insert the cartridges.
    Note: MAKE SURE THE LABEL SIDE IS UP.
16. Close the scanner unit (cover).
17. Press  to print the alignment page.

It is critical to make sure cartridges are properly inserted and seated in the carrier before proceeding with the installation.

To summarize:

• Insert front-end of cartridge first with the label-side up.
   
• Concurrently press down and push your finger towards the back of the carrier.
   
• Release your finger when you hear a click or you see the cartridge release tab lock onto the cartridge.

If you selected No Thanks to step 7.

How do you want to connect your printer?

Select one of the following and then click Continue.

• Wireless connection
• Ethernet connection (Available on the Pro 515, Pro 715, Pro 915, Pro4000, Pro5500)
• Local connection

Select the current Wi-Fi indicator light status and then click Continue.

• It should be off  () or ( ) for first-time installations.

Other possibilities include:

• A green flashing light often  suggests a previous configuration that is no longer valid.
   
• A green light would suggest that this printer is already configured and is communicating with some access point. Select this if installing software on additional computers.

Select your Wireless Configuration Path:

• Guided Setup (This article.)
   
• Advanced Setup (802.11x Radius)

Click Continue after selecting:

• Yes to configure with WPS (PBC or PIN Methods). Click here for more information.
   
• No to configure wireless settings with a Computer-to-Printer USB cable connection. (This article).

Click Continue but be aware of this reminder since these values are absolutely necessary to join your wireless network.

• SSID (Service Set Identifier) or  commonly referred to as your Network Name.
   
• Your WEP or WPA passphrase.

Ethernet-equipped printer models only

Additional notifications will appear after you connect the USB cable.

• Click Cancel or close out the Found New Hardware notification.
   
• Windows Vista users can select Ask Me Again Later or Don't Show this message again for this device before clicking Cancel.

Searching for Wireless Networks now appears. This site survey will locate ALL other wireless devices or networks.

Note: Only local subnets or network segments will be searched.

Select your network name (SSID) and click Continue.

This is your AP network name (SSID). Be cautious of identical names in areas of heavy wireless congestion, especially if you are using the router's default SSID.

If your AP SSID is not visible

• Click refresh to perform another site survey.
• Click Unlisted Network to manually add security parameters.
• Or, verify wireless (AP) communication with other wireless devices.

Click Continue after selecting Yes or No thanks for how you would like the software to handle the processing of passphrase.

• Select Yes.
   
• Select No thanks, I'll enter it manually if the software is unable to determine this value or you know the exact WPA passphrase.

Important! This is a case-sensitive and spacing-sensitive value. Failure to enter the security key correctly will result in a Connection failed message. Try to re-enter the value more than once since incorrect entry of the key is common.

Unlisted Network and Manual Entry of passphrase considerations.

You may need to select Unlisted Network if...

• You never configured your access point (AP) with a unique SSID value, but you did set a password.
• You reside in an area of heavy network traffic.
• The AP you are trying to connect to is not currently available.
• The AP is on a different network segment.
• Visibility Status or Broadcast SSID on the router is set to Hide or Disable.
• Low or unstable connectivity with the AP.
• Your computer is not communicating on your wireless network. (See Window's notification area [systray] and attempt to access the Web.)

What to do?

Note: Neighboring AP may be closer to your workstation and printer than your AP.   
 

Successful negotiation of security parameters will result in the printer being configured with the following settings:

• SSID
• Passphrase
• Channel
• Signal Strength
• DHCP administered TCP/IP address

Observation

Next, decide which Advanced Features you would like to configure by selecting or deselecting the following functions:

• Scan
• E-mail
• Faxes

Click Continue or Quit.

The configuration utility with attempt to match your e-mail address to the appropriate settings for your ESP (E-mail Service Provider):

• SMTP Server (primary SMTP gateway)
• SMTP Port
• Authentication Type
• SSL/TSL values

Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will need to provide any of the above settings if there is a setting mismatch.

You will need to provide your E-mail Username and E-mail Password.

If you see E-mail Setup Incomplete:

• Select Back and obtain the proper values for successful configuration.
   
• Click here for more information.

Otherwise, click Finish.

Observe the additional settings that can be configured via Lexmark Printer Home

• Contact Lists
• Junk Fax Blocking
• Advanced fax settings
• More...

Click Finish.

1. Enter a nickname for "Push Scans" initiated at the printer.

• The default name is acceptable.
• This name is especially useful when configuring multiple users.

2. Enter a 4-digit PIN to prevent unwanted scans to your computer.
    
3. Click OK.
