How to Update Firmware via 'Generic File Download' in MarkVision Professional 11.x
This article provides instructions on how to update printer or MFP firmware using MVP 11.1 or later.

MVP NOTE: MVP is an administrative utility used in large enterprises. It provides centralized management of multiple printers.
Before you begin
- You will be required to contact Lexmark Technical Support to obtain the latest proper firmware for your printer, MFP, or print server.
- You will have to verify the IP address or Host name of the device to be updated.
- Also, consider the Firmware Download (print server) Action from the All Actions list if you are specifically updating MarkNet print server firmware.
Procedure: How to update firmware via MVP
Step Action 1
Click on Actions.
Click on Generic File Download.
Under Select Files To Download, click on Load. 4
A Choose File window appears; browse to the directory that contains the firmware file.
Select the file so that it appears next to File Name, and then click Load again.
The file is now loaded (selected), and the file name appears in the pane under Select Files to Download.
Click the (>) button to add this file. The file will now appear under File Details.
Select Quick Find or Folders to locate the IP address of the device(s). 10
Next to Select a field to search: click the down-arrow and select IP address/Host Name from the drop-down menu.
Enter the IP address or Host name and click on Find.
If the device is found, highlight the printer or print server, and then click the add (>) button so that it appears under the Selected Devices list.
Select either http or ftp protocol.
Recommendation: http should work with multiple file extension types. However, certain file extensions such as .fls and .pjl can also be sent via ftp.
Click on Finish and look for a STATUS: Success message to indicate a successful file transfer.
