This article provides instructions for removing a fuser unit assembly and installing a new or replacement fuser unit.

Step Action 1 Power off the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the printer or from the wall outlet. 2
Remove the fuser wiper cover assembly. To do this, press the button securing the fuser wiper cover in the machine and lift it out of the printer. Click here to view an image illustrating this step.
Remove the rear door/access cover. To do this:
- Open the rear door.
- Twist the door strap left or right until the strap is vertical.
- Carefully pull the strap out of the slot.
- Hold the door at a 45° angle. Click here to view an illustration.
- Carefully pull the door up and away from the printer.
Open the fuser access door.
5 Press in the two buttons located on the sides of the fuser unit assembly. While holding in these two buttons, carefully pull the fuser unit out of the machine. Click here to view an image illustrating this step. 6 Unpack the new/replacement fuser unit. 7
Align the replacement fuser unit with the tracks in the printer. Then slide the fuser unit in as far as it will go. You should hear or feel the buttons click the fuser into place when the fuser unit is correctly installed.
IMPORTANT! When installing the fuser unit, ensure that the two buttons and the electrical connection on the fuser (shown in the image below) are properly secured.
Close the fuser access door.
Reinstall the rear door/access cover. To do this:
- Hold the door at a 45° angle and align it with the slots in the printer frame.
- Carefully slide the door into place.
- Reconnect the door strap into the slot. Make sure the strap is secure.
- Open and close the rear door a few times. Confirm that the door opens and closes completely and easily.
- Close the rear door.
Reinstall the fuser wiper cover assembly.
Reconnect the power cord and power the printer back on. Confirm that the printer powers up correctly to the 'ready' state.
NOTE: If a Replace Fuser message is appearing on the printer screen, you will need to reset the fuser page count. Refer to the instruction sheet that shipped with the new fuser unit or contact Lexmark Technical Support for directions.
Print a few pages. Confirm that the printer is working correctly. If not, please contact Lexmark Technical Support.
