  • -How to identify "junk fax" phone numbers, caller IDs or station names.

  • -How to use the Block No Name Fax feature

Procedure:  How to add phone numbers to the Banned Fax List

Perform the following steps to guarantee freedom from junk faxes or fax advertising:
  1. Open the device web page by typing http://mfp_ip_address, where mfp_ip_address is the actual TCP/IP address of the MFP.
  2. Click on Configuration or Settings.
  3. Click on Fax Settings.
  4. Click on Analog Fax Setup.
  5. Locate Fax Receive Settings and the Banned Fax List.
  6. Enter the relevant phone numbers, caller IDs, or station IDs without spaces or symbols - for example, 9913124567890;34568753;Station4;18882348907
IMPORTANT! Separate all entries with a semi-colon (;).
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of the web page and click Submit.
NOTE:  Faxes blocked by caller ID will not be answered and will appear as "Blocked" in the Logs.  Faxes blocked by station ID will be terminated after connection and appear as "Canceled" in the logs.

How to determine the 'Junk Fax' source

Two methods are available:
  • -Print out the fax call log or view the fax job log via the device's web page.
  • -Enable the fax footer feature. This will print the sender's information across the bottom of the printed fax.

Print or view the Fax Call Log

  1. Open the device web page by typing http://mfp_ip_address, where mfp_ip_address is the actual TCP/IP address of the MFP.

  2. Click on Reports.

  3. Click on Fax Job Log or Fax Call Log.  Click here for an illustration.

  4. Identify and take note of any unrecognized fax numbers.

Enable Fax Footer

  1. Open the device web page by typing http://mfp_ip_address, where mfp_ip_address is the actual TCP/IP address of the MFP.

  2. Click on Configuration or Settings.

  3. Click on Fax Settings.

  4. Click on Analog Fax Setup

  5. Under Fax Receive Settings, place a checkmark next to Fax Footer.  Click here for an illustration.

  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit.

Use the 'Block No Name Fax' feature

The soliciting party may have intentionally blocked personal information from the fax in an effort to mask their identity (caller ID) or location (station name).  In this case, you can place a checkmark next to Block No Name Fax as a preventive measure.  NOTE: This may affect your ability to receive legitimate faxes if a legitimate fax sender has not properly configured their fax machine.
