Overview

This article explains how to perform a USB flash/thumb drive firmware update.
NOTE: Loader, kernel, base, engine, AIO, fax, network, network driver, or scanner code levels may be upgraded using this procedure.

Default file extensions

A .fls flash file extension is required to perform this procedure. Fortunately, most current printer firmware packages include firmware with this file extension.

Other file types you may see
Printer or MFP Default File Extension
X54x Series Color MFP .ffi
T650 and T652 Mono Laser Printers .faa
T654 .ffx
X46x Series Mono MFP .ffg

How to change the firmware file extension

To do this:

  1. Right-click on the firmware file to display a drop-down menu.
  2. Click on Rename.
  3. Type in .fls after the existing file extension; e.g., LJMNP092.ffv.fls
  4. Alternatively, remove the existing file extension and replace it with .fls; e.g., LJMNP092.fls
  5. Copy the renamed file to the USB flash drive.

  • Firmware .fls file
  • USB drive must be formatted for the FAT32 and not NTFS.
