This article explains the proper procedure for cleaning or replacing the pick roller on the automatic document feed (ADF) mechanism of an X4600 series scanner.
If you are experiencing paper jams or other feed issues with the ADF mechanism of your scanner, you should try cleaning the pick roller before seeking service on the scanner. In addition, please note that cleaning the pick roller on a regular basis will help the ADF mechanism to feed paper properly and more reliably. NOTE: You should replace the pick roller if it appears worn or damaged.
Step Action Image 1 Open the ADF cover. 2 Press down on the pick roller release lever. 3
Pull down on the pick roller shaft and then remove the pick roller.
- If you are cleaning the pick roller, moisten a clean lint-free cloth or paper towel with isopropyl alcohol. Carefully wipe the surface of the pick roller.
- If you are replacing the pick roller, unpack the replacement pick roller.
4 Insert the cleaned or replacement pick roller onto the shaft. Push up on the pick roller shaft and move it into position. 5
Press up on the pick roller release lever to lock the shaft into place.
6 Close the ADF cover. Test the ADF with a sheet of paper to confirm it is functioning correctly.
